Can you say "ick"??!!!!?

I have a son named Dominic. Now how would you pronounce that? Dominick or Domonique? I am so upset that EVERYONE who sees my son's name mispronounces it. First and foremost, Domonique is a girls name and more specifically, a black girls name. Just for the record, my son is a boy and he is white. But more importantly, every word in the english language that ends in "IC" is pronounced "ICK", i.e. mechanic, angelic, etc. So why is it so hard for people to recognize his name? He is almost 2 now and I have been bothered by this his entire life. My question is would you legally change the spelling of his name (add a "K") before he has to deal with this in school? I really had no idea people would be so ignorant when I named him, but I would hate for him to always have to correct others for calling him a girls name. Any Dominics out there have this problem?
