Why is the Gs of Wrath on the AFI top 100 list?

as part of a school ignment, i have to explain why the Gs of Wrath (1941) is on the AFI top 100's list. all i can think of is that it accurately Depicts life during the great depression. Any ideas are welcome. also, interesting tidbits (bloopers, fun facts) are welcome as well.
